Robert Smithson's earth sculpture titled "Spiral Jetty" (1970) is located on the northeast shore of Great Salt Lake in Utah. Smithson hired a contractor to help him move 6,650 tons of rock and earth into the lake using two dump trucks, a large tractor, and a front end loader. "Spiral Jetty" forms a counterclockwise coil which measures 1,500 feet long and 15 feet wide that extends off the shore into the water.
