Official Obama White House portraits unveiled today

I was watching the news during my lunch today and was a bit surprised and confused when they announced that there was going to be an unveiling of the official White House portraits of former President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama. I thought that the official portraits of the Obamas were completed back in 2018, when the portraits by Kehinde Wiley (of Barack) and Amy Sherald (of Michelle) were presented. My understanding now is that those were “official” as far as the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery goes, but today’s paintings – by Robert McCurdy (of President Obama) and Sharon Sprung (of First Lady Michelle Obama) – are the official White House portraits.
