Finding treasures at Parris Treasures

I was running some errands in my old neighborhood of West Orange today, and stopped in at Parris Treasures, a local home furnishings and antiques store. It just so happens they’re having a huge clearance sale this weekend, and their already huge showroom and warehouse space was extended to the outdoors, as you can see here below. If you’re wondering how I got this shot, they now have an additional 2nd floor space, with 5,000 more square feet of furniture and home furnishings that goes in addition to the 10,000 square feet on the ground floor.

I have always enjoyed looking around in this store, because in addition to antique and restored furniture, they have plenty of art and artistic furniture. As you can see below, Rodin’s “Thinker” is overseeing the activity at the store today, and I was intrigued by this table, which had an elaborate painting on the bottom side of the glass tabletop.

I’m all for supporting local small businesses, especially ones with funky, cool art and furniture, but Parris Treasures deserves this promo as well because of their community outreach: they currently have a program called Passing Kindness Forward, in which they ask for donations of toiletries for a Battered Women’s Shelter in Montclair, NJ, which houses 40 women. They’re also getting involved in an innovative sheltering program that uses customized shipping containers to house residents at-risk or without addresses – you can read more about that here.
