Why our Flash Games had to be retired

If you’ve been playing games on Artsology in any recent history (or even back to our beginning, 18 years ago!), chances are you were enjoying some of our fun Flash games, including Surrealist Frogger, the Sand Painting Game (with zombies, swarms of bees, and electrical storms), the Jackson Pollock Paint Can Toss Game, or any number of other fun arts games, some of which are seen below. Unfortunately, as of 2021, we’ve had to retire our Flash games due to the fact this web technology is now extinct. The maker of Flash, Adobe, had decided to no longer support Flash Player starting on December 31, 2020, and starting blocked Flash content from even running on current web browsers as of January 12, 2021. If you’d like to learn more about why they did this, you can read more here.

We’re in the process of removing these games from the site, but wanted to let you know that if you happen upon any Flash content – whether on our site or elsewhere – the Flash logo with the blue “i” as seen above will be your sign that Flash is no longer supported as a web technology.

But don’t worry – just because we had to remove 25 Flash games, we still have well over 100 more arts games for kids of all ages that can be played!
