Stanley Crouch, Jazz Critic, Author, Poet, and more … 1945-2020

I just found out – a few weeks late – that Stanley Crouch, the esteemed jazz critic, author and poet, recently passed away at the age of 74. I didn’t realize until I read his NPR obituary that he was also at one point a jazz drummer, playing with the saxophonist David Murray. As the NY Times obituary states, he was “… a prolific author, essayist, columnist and social critic, he challenged conventional thinking on race and helped found Jazz at Lincoln Center.” Learn more about Stanley Crouch here, and check out the video below.
