Zaha Hadid and her Google Doodle

I was pleased to see a Google Doodle for Zaha Hadid today, the Iraqi-British architect who was the first woman to receive the Pritzker Architecture Prize (back in 2004). I’ve become intrigued by her work ever since the Hadid-designed condos at 520 West 28th Street in Chelsea started going up in 2014. Every time I’m in the Chelsea neighborhood to see art gallery shows, I stop and take pictures of her building-in-progress (the most-recent of which is shown below).

However, I somehow missed the news that she passed away from a heart attack in March of 2016! Her death left a number of unfinished projects, including this building on West 28th Street in NYC, but her firm Zaha Hadid Architects will certainly see them through to completion.
