I saw this music video today by a band called “Wintergatan,” which is a Swedish folktronica band from Göteborg. My first thought was that as cool as this marble machine looks, it can’t really be creating this music, can it? But it does – it is a real hand-made music box that powers a kick drum, bass, vibraphone and other instruments using a hand crank and 2,000 marbles, and it took over a year for Swedish musician Martin Molin to create it. The cool thing is that it’s not just capable of playing this one song – the machine itself is programmable, with a central wheel that has a 32 bar loop and levers that allow one to change the key of the music being played.
Check out this video and be amazed!
