A look inside Mondrian’s garage

Do you think this is what Piet Mondrian’s garage looked like? Red, yellow and blue objects stacked on neat black shelves? Could be … but in fact it’s a wall sculpture by Mathieu Mercier titled “Colombraro.” I tried to find out what “Colombraro” meant, and the first thing that comes up is an Argentinian company that makes plastic products. At any rate, Mercier, who lives and works in Paris, creates work that explores the relationship between contemporary mass-produced consumer objects and their aesthetic origins in early 20th Century art and design. He frequently employs common household and industrial materials to create his sculptural, photographic, and wall-based works. See more of Mercier’s art work here.
