Talking to a Hurricane

Despite the hurricane rolling through our area 5 days ago, there’s someone in the neighborhood who is still broadcasting their message out via this plastic tarp-covered door, which reads: “Sandy, get a life”

I understand the message, they’re saying “Hurricane Sandy, leave us alone,” but it does seem to be a peculiar way to express one’s concern about a storm.
