April 2011 is Jazz Appreciation Month

Each April is Jazz Appreciation Month. The Smithsonian Museum started this tradition in April 2002, and uses the occasion to shine the spotlight on the history of jazz and its importance in American culture. Through concerts, lectures, films, and other programs, “JAM” (Jazz Appreciation Month) encourages people of all ages to attend concerts, listen to jazz on radio and recordings, read books about jazz, study the music, and support institutional jazz programs.
