WWII Poster

WWII propaganda poster He's Watching YouWe saw this poster during a recent visit to the International Spy Museum in Washington D.C., and we found the image quite striking.

A little investigation led us to learn that this poster was designed in 1942 by artist Glenn Grohe for the Office of Emergency Management, during the early stages of the U.S. involvement in World War II. It shows a sinister, shadowy figure of a German soldier looking directly at the viewer. It was intended to motivate the public to follow wartime rules about secrecy in the industrial sector.

It has been suggested that this image may have served as visual inspiration for the appearance of the character Darth Vader from the Star Wars movies … what do you think?
