The timing of this video is interesting in that it takes place in 1982, around the time that Basquiat was just starting to gain some early attention and recognition for his art. In late 1981, Basquiat had his first gallery representation with Annina Nosei, but only participated in a group exhibition with her that fall. But in March 1982, Annina Nosei puts on Basquiat's first solo exhibition, which gets rave reviews. This video takes place in the fall of 1982, when Basquiat had an exhibition at the Fun Gallery in the East Village, which is a huge success.
